Ask The Disposal Experts: Used Cell Phones

Technology is always advancing which means to keep up you have to keep updating. These days almost everyone has a cell phone and to keep up with the latest and greatest, you have to turn in your phone for a newer model almost once a year! All these upgrades mean there are a few unused old cell phones sitting in drawers and desks, but what do you do with them? Unfortunately, electronics are on our “No-No” list, but there are some better options out there.

If you’re looking to recycle your old cell phone, just about any cell phone retailer will recycle it for you (Verizon, AT&T, etc). However, if you’re looking to do more with your gently used phone, you can always donate it to a great cause, like the ones we have listed below.

RedFish Recycling

Cell Phones for Soldiers
This nonprofit organization provides cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans. By donating your gently used cell phone, you’re helping a member of the U.S. military call home to their family.

This Houston-based organization works with families to end child abuse. According to their website, “The average cell phone user upgrades every 14-18 months in the U.S., but only about 8% of cell phones are recycled today.” Donate your cell phone and help Texas families stay connected.

March of Dimes
This organization helps pregnant women have healthy babies. When you donate your used cell phone to March of Dimes, you are helping fund research on diseases that harm infants and children.

So start digging through your junk drawer and get rid of those old cell phones. If you have any other recycling questions, ask the experts!
