The Recycling Revolution
At RedFish Recycling, we’re excited about the emphasis that has been put on recycling in recent years. Slowly, people are changing their habits for the better, and recognizing the necessity of reducing our carbon footprint and becoming more socially responsible when it comes to the environment. Here are some quick 2014 figures that illustrate how far we’ve come:
- 229 million Americans – 74% of the population – now have access to curbside recycling programs.
- Nationally, Americans recycled and composted almost 87 million tons of municipal waste last year. This provides an annual reduction of more than 168 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of taking 33 million cars off the road.
- Americans saved more than 1.1 quadrillion BTU of energy, the same amount used by 10 million households in a year.
While we still have a long way to go, it’s clear that America is aware change needs to happen. People everywhere are recycling and doing their part to improve the planet and preserve the environment. If you haven’t already, it’s time to join the movement.
How can you join? Simple. Start recycling at home. RedFish is currently working to bring curbside recycling to Brownsville – this is big news, and will be an enormous step in making recycling convenient and accessible for every resident. With curbside recycling, recycling household materials is easy; you throw all recyclable materials in one bin, and we do the sorting for you. You’ll never have to separate metal, plastic, and paper.
Keep an eye out for future announcements on curbside recycling, and in the meantime, contact your local government officials and tell them you want curbside recycling. It’s one small step that can make a big impact on the planet.
